 The Most Important Thing
問　1 この世で、いちばんだいじなことは、なんですか。 Q. 1 What is the most important thing in the world?
答 イエス・キリストを救い主と信じることです。 A Believing on the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior.
問　2 信じるとどうなりますか。 Q. 2 What happens when I believe?
答 救われます。 A I am saved.
問　3 それは、どうしてわかりますか。 Q. 3 How can I know I am saved?
答 聖書に書いてあるからです。 A Because the Bible tells me so.
問　4 聖書は、どんな書物ですか。 Q. 4 What kind of book is the Bible?
答 誤りのない、神のみ言葉です。 A It is God's Word without mistakes.
問　5 救われると、どうなりますか。 Q. 5 What happens when I am saved?
答 神を正しく礼拝する者となります。 A I am able to worship God rightly.
問　6 礼拝とは、なんですか。 Q. 6 What is worship?
答 神を賛美し、神を中心に生きることです。 A Worship is praising God and living for him.

全世界の造り主

 Creator of the Whole World
問　7 世界をお造りになったのは、どなたですか。 Q. 7 Who made the world?
答 ほんとうの神です。 A The one true God.
問　8 ほんとうの神と、そうでない神々を、どうしてみわけるのですか。 Q. 8 How can we tell the true God from false gods?
答 全世界を造ることのできない神々は、ほんとうの神ではありません。 A Gods who can't make the whole world are no gods at all.
問　9 私たち人間も、神に造られたのですか。 Q. 9 Were human beings also made by God?
答 神に似せて、男と女に造られました。 A Yes, we were made in God's image, male and female.
問　10 神に似せて、とはどういうことですか。 Q.10 What does "made in God's image" mean?
答 正しく、きよく、賢い人間として、ということです。 A It means we were made good, holy, and wise.
問　11 罪のない人間に、神は何を与えられましたか。 Q.11 What did God give to people before they sinned?
答 神の律法を心に刻み込まれました。 A He wrote his law on their hearts.
問　12 それと共になにを与えられましたか。 Q.12 With his law what else did he give them?
答 生きるために、ただ一つの目的を与えられました。 A He gave them just one purpose for their lives.

答 神の戒めを破ることです。 A Breaking God's commandments.

答 最初の人アダムです。 A The first man Adam.
問　18 罪を犯したアダムは、どうなりましたか。 Q.18 What happened to Adam when he sinned?
答 神との交わりから追放され、死ぬ者となりました。 A He was shut out from fellowship with God and became a dying man.
問　19 それだけですか。 Q.19 Is that all?
答 生きる目的と希望を失いました。 A He lost his purpose and hope for living.
問　20 それは、最初の人アダムだけのことですか。 Q.20 Is that true only for first man Adam?
答 アダムは全人類の代表でしたから、その子孫もみな、彼にあって罪を犯しました。 A No, all his descendants committed sin in him.

答 そうです。人はみな、原罪をもって生まれます。 A Yes, we are. All people are born with original sin.

答 永遠に滅びます。 A They perish forever.

問　24 神は、人間を救うために、なにをなさいましたか。 Q.24 What did God do to save people?
答 神のみ子キリストを、この世に遣わされました。 A He sent his Son Jesus Christ into this world.

答 聖霊の力により、処女マリアの胎に宿るという仕方によってです。 A By being conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin Mary.

答 この地上のご生涯においても、また復活して天に昇られてからも働いておられます。 A He works both in his life on earth, and also after He rose from the dead and ascended into heaven.

答 そのとおりです。そして、いつも、わたしたちとともにいてくださいます。 A Yes, he is. And he is always with us.

救いを授ける聖霊

 The Holy Spirit Who Bestows Salvation
問　38 キリストは、救いを、だれに与えられるのですか。 Q.38 To whom does Christ give salvation?
答 イエス・キリストを救い主と信じた人に与えられます。 A Jesus Christ gives salvation to those who believe in him as Savior.
問　39 どうすれば、信じることができますか。 Q.39 How can you believe?
答 説教を聞き、聖書を読むことによってです。 A By listening to sermons and reading the Bible.
問　40 なぜ、そうすると信じることができるのですか。 Q.40 Why does that help you to believe?
答 心に聖霊が宿り、救いの意味を悟らせてくださるからです。 A Because the Holy Spirit dwells in my heart and helps me understand the meaning of salvation.
問　41 では、救いも信仰も神からの贈り物なのですか。 Q.41 Are salvation and faith both gifts from God?
答 はい、そうです。神からの一方的な恵みとして与えられます。 A Yes, they are given as free gifts of God's grace.
問　42 キリストを救い主と信じると、どうなりますか。 Q.42 What happens when you believe in Christ as your Savior?
答 罪を悔い改めます。 A I repent of my sins.

答 生まれながらの罪と、この世で犯したすべての罪です。 A The sin I was born with and all the sins I have committed in my life.

答 すべての罪が赦され、罪の責任が帳消しにされます。 A All sins are forgiven, and my record is wiped clean.

答 神の前で、正しい者と認められます。 A I am recognized as a righteous person before God.
問　46 どうして、正しい者と認められるのですか。 Q.46 Why are you recognized as a righteous person?
答 キリストが十字架にかかって、信じる者たちのために死んでくださったからです。 A Because Christ died on the cross for those who believe on him.
問　47 正しい者と認められると、どうなりますか。 Q.47 What happens to those who are recognized as righteous?
答 神の子どもとされます。 A They become children of God.
問　48 神の子どもとなると、どうなりますか。 Q.48 What happens to God's children?
答 父なる神との交わりが与えられます。 A They are given fellowship with the Heavenly Father.
問　49 それと同時に、なにが与えられますか。 Q.49 What else given to them at the same time?
答 聖霊の力により、新しい命、永遠の命が与えられます。 A They are given new, eternal life, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

答 心の汚れがきよめられます。 A The pollution of my heart is made holy.

答 死の直後です。 A Right after I die.

答 自分中心ではなく、神中心に、生きるようになります。 A I can live for God instead of for myself.

答 死は、肉体と魂の分離で、肉体は地のちりに帰ります。 A Death is the separation of their bodies and souls; their bodies return to the dust of the earth.

答 キリストのみもとに上げられ、完全にきよくされます。 A They are taken up to be with Christ, and made completely holy.
問　56 肉体はどうなりますか。 Q.56 What happens to their bodies?
答 復活の時まで、墓の中で休みます。 A They rest in their graves until the day of resurrection.
問　57 復活は、いつ起こるのですか。 Q.57 When will the resurrection happen?
答 終末の時、キリストが再臨される時です。 A At the time of the end, when Christ comes again.

 The Church, the Body of Christ
問　58 キリストの再臨を、どのようにして待つのですか。 Q.58 How should we be waiting for Christ's return?
答 教会生活を熱心に励みつつ待ちます。 A We wait for him as we diligently devote ourselves to church life.
問　59 なぜ、熱心に励むのですか。 Q.59 Why do we need to devote ourselves diligently?
答 キリストの恵みに、あずかることができるからです。 A Because that's how we can participate in the grace of Christ.
問　60 どのような手段によって恵みを受けるのですか。 Q.60 What are the means by which we receive grace?
答 神のみ言葉と礼典と祈りという手段を用いることによってです。 A By using the means of God's Word, the sacraments, and prayer.
問　61 それはおもに、どこで用いられますか。 Q.61 Where mainly are these means used?
答 主の日の礼拝において、用いられます。 A They are used in Lord's Day worship.

答 洗礼を受けて、信仰告白をした信徒です。 A Believers who have received baptism and confessed their faith.

 Ten commandments and Lord 's Prayer

答 道徳律法です。 A God's moral law.
問　73 道徳律法とは、何ですか。 Q.73 What is the moral law?
答 神を愛し、隣人を愛しなさいという戒めです。 A God's command to love him and to love our neighbor.

答 十戒に要約されています。 A It is summarized in the Ten Commandments.

答 完全に守れなくても、完全をめざして進むのです。 A Even if we can't keep them perfectly, we grow toward perfection.

答 神にたえず祈ることが必要です。 A Constant prayer to God is necessary.
